10 min drive from house-Watauga Gorge public river access. Bring your tubes, canoes, kayaks, fishing poles. Hike to Laurel Creek Falls or as the locals call it "Trash Can Falls"
River adventure: Put in at Watauga Gorge and get out at Guy Ford Bridge. Both access points are just a 10 min drive from the house.
